Investing in Tropical Farming

Brazil has become one of the most dynamic economies in the world and is ideally equipped to become a leading economic power. It is one of the world’s biggest producers and exporters of foodstuffs. The country’s competitiveness in agriculture arises from the quality of its soils, its excellent weather and its talented and professional human resources.

Agrifirma’s reasons for investing in Brazil include:

  • The country’s many years of agricultural experience and expertise, reflected in its strong market positions in soybeans, cotton, coffee and other products.
  • The country’s democratic traditions, political stability and respect for the rule of law.
  • A climate that is favourable for the production of a wide range of crops, including corn, soybeans and cotton.
  • Prolific natural resources and a commitment to sustainable environmental practices.
  • Brazil has 14% of the world’s usable water resources with 3% of the world’s population.
  • Continued economic progress, reflected in the Brazilian economy’s impressive resilience during the global financial crisis.

In a July 2009 report on Brazil, the IMF praised Brazil for its “robust policy framework and sound prudential supervision”. Since 2008 Brazilian Government bonds have been awarded investment grade status by all three of the main rating agencies. Foreign Direct Investment rose by 30% in 2008 – a big vote of confidence in Brazil's future.
